The Marechiaro project is a shelving unit / a screen / a palisade / an architecture / a domestic landscape that questions the traditional use of the bookshelf and its presence in space. The system is a screen-cabinet which on one side is aimed at storing books and objects that are dear to us, and on the other side is a screen made up of wooden slats assembled in openwork to maintain a certain transparency. This dual use, this dual identity allows free and flexible use. The system enables to create a space within space : thanks to these three modules (straight, concave and convex) the compositions offer infinite freedom in the creation of alcoves and perforated walls while adapting to the requirements of the architecture of the place. We can thus easily delimit a workspace / a living room, a lounge / a dining room, a dressing room / a bedroom. In two-tone, the wooden slats add movement and surprise. They also allow Marechiaro to be apprehended differently depending on the angle of observation.
Shelving unit entirely made of machined solid wood.
Choice of two finishes :
NATURAL ASH : natural ash shelves / natural and black-stained slats
BLACK-STAINED ASH : black-stained ash shelves / ‘patine bronze’ (bronze patina) and black-stained slats

The Mobilier National has a twin mission : to furnish official buildings and to embody French design at the point of innovation. Pierre Paulin participated in this project from 1971 with Elysée and Pumpkin. Philippe Nigro takes up the baton in 2020 with Ligne Roset and Hémicycle. If the term « Hémicycle » might be evocative of the Assemblée Nationale, it was also chosen for its completely different geometrical connotation. The use of this straight seat must also be well suited to use in institutions, public spaces or more traditional habitations. It represents a classically-styled welcoming place capable of travelling between the highest echelons of power and the intimacy of a contemporary apartment.

With his new bed, the success of Philippe Nigro’s wager lies as much in its great visual and physical comfort as it does in the impression of preciosity it exudes from its reasonably-sized headboard to the art deco-reminiscent slopes of its base. Enveloping, reassuring and above all evocative : of basking in the natural pools of the forest waterfalls of Evisa, Corsica, whose columns of water could have inspired the ridges of the headboard. Unless the latter are more evocative to you of a ‘madeleine de Proust’ such as sponge fingers or the gluttony of a clafoutis...Moreover, this is a bed which merits being located in the very centre of a room, given that such a high degree of attention has been lavished on all of its aspects.

Philippe Nigro’s Phileas seating, designed for Ligne Roset, both challenges and surprises: he has managed the impressive feat of achieving cutting edge modernity, imbuing his creation with real personality and a strong visual identity close to the ‘never-before-seen’, whilst at the same time awakening a cluster of nostalgic reminiscences which anchor it in reassuring historical continuity, like a real multifaceted Proust madeleine. Its vertical quilting recalls the upholstery of 1950s automobile seats, banquettes from the mythical Orient Express, the hushed surroundings of English gentlemen’s clubs, the novels of Agatha Christie and Jules Verne, the balloons of the Montgolfier brothers...inviting one on a real motionless journey through time.

Comfortable, easy on the eye and very compact – it fits into a 75 x 75cm cube – this armchair will fit perfectly into all styles of interiors. Its structure, a functional carcase of a type which is normally concealed, becomes not only visible but so much more, its principal aesthetic attribute.
In 2019, the enduring success of the Flax armchairs since their launch in 2010 has led Philippe Nigro to complement them with a settee with the same construction. Perfectly proportioned, it offers two generous seat places whilst occupying the least possible space: with a depth of 80cm, it is only 135cm wide! The one-piece seat cushion reinforces the impression of discreet elegance. Ideal for small spaces, its walnut frame nonetheless lightens its visual presence still further. Just like the armchair, the settee also offers a choice of two heights of back cushion. As a counterpoint to contemporary surroundings, its look back at past expertise and the vibrancy of its natural walnut bring a touch of warmth.

CUTS

For this project Philippe Nigro started with a simple parallelepiped which he then distorted by precision-cutting a 20° notch out of each face. This notch echoes the shape of a half-open book... whilst the chosen height of 36.5 cm is extremely appropriate to its function as a bookshelf. Thanks to the irregular shape of this module, one can obtain 4 different results simply by rotating it either horizontally or vertically. All that remains is to stack and/or juxtapose several such modules to obtain the desired configuration, a seemingly random construction. When stacked, chests are held in place by their own weight (13 kg) and steadied by small non-slip transparent rubber feet located between each chest. It is also possible to play with colour by mixing the 5 finishes on offer. Modules are made from satin lacquered MDF.
