DESIGN PRODUCT : In 2023, Ligne Roset is reissuing two models by Pierre Paulin created in 1954 to accompany the Tanis desk. The first one is the F061 sideboard and the second one is the F181 sofa end table/bedside table. These two pieces are in the same finishes as the Tanis desk.

ALANDO

This range of furniture, designed by Eric Jourdan, comprises a desk and a sideboard. Its originality lies in the subtle dynamism arising from the contrast between the tubular metal structure and the dark walnut. The tubing, in bleu nuit, forms a light and airy framework above the top, thus creating animation and a tension in which each element enhances the other.
The desk is somewhat reminiscent of the pure, modern and minimalist spirit of 1950s furniture. Both the base and the positioning of the two drawers, both finished in blue lacquer, create an asymmetrical effect which shows off this desk ''like a picture in its frame''.
The sideboard, with its three flap doors, gives an immediate sense of serenity, with the broad, flat sweep of its angular top ''roundly'' encased in its tubular mounting at each end to show to best effect any objects which might be placed in its centre.
The sideboard is also available in a version with 2 flap doors and a block of 4 drawers in the centre, with or without the tubular base.

CONCEPTION : although it might be evocative of certain metal modular systems from the office world, Dita clearly distances itself from these in a number of ways: its lacquered panels are in wood rather than sheet metal; its discreet profiled uprights with their sophisticated finish are perfectly placed, cast and not part of the structure; a matching handle which is light and beautifully designed; and its small, slim feet which continue the line of the structure in a very natural way.
QUALITY OF MANUFACTURE & FINISHES: uprights are in 15 x 15 mm anodised aluminium section in a brushed bronze finish. These frame the wooden panels which are finished in argile lacquer on the interior faces and in a choice of 16 colours for all visible exterior faces:
- satin white, argile and perle (standard),
- rouge, bleu, bleu lavande, chocolat, mastic, noir, azur, brique, éléphant, moutarde, ranger, plomb and bleu nuit (to order).
All items are single-sided but are finished on the back (back panels and edges in argile lacquer). Certain items may be given an optional double-sided treatment, with the addition of a rear finishing panel.
Handles are in injected zamak, lacquered bronze to co-ordinate with the uprights.
Hinges are black.
The feet H 30 mm continue the line of the uprights and incorporate a black jack.
The new shelving unit, at H 189 cm the same height as the storage column, has shelves in a choice of 17 finishes: grey smoked glass, satin white/argile/perle lacquer, plus the 13 'to-order' lacquer colours (rouge, bleu, bleu lavande, chocolat, mastic, noir, azur, brique, éléphant, moutarde, ranger, plomb and bleu nuit).
The 4-drawer chest is composed of 3 identical drawers topped with a narrower upper drawer.
The 6-drawer chest is composed of 5 identical drawers topped with a nattower upper drawer.
The bench/TV unit is available in 2 versions, either with a cushion or with a lacquered top. It comprises 2 flap doors with 2 lower glass shelves (could be used as hallway storage).
The cushion in high resilience polyurethane Bultex foam 53 kg/m3 – 6.3 kPa is covered in Steelcut trio 3 (choice of 53 colours).

THE CONCEPT
From Christian Werner, designer of the EVERYWHERE range of storage, now comes SELVANS, which is characterised by the use of grooved dark-stained walnut veneer on its fronts and sides.
This grooved dark-stained walnut veneer is composed of slim panels clad in several layers of thick, mass-tinted veneer then finished in American walnut veneer. This thickness of ‘wood’ then makes it possible for the fronts to be grooved, revealing the “dark” layer beneath. Finally, a hand-applied surface treatment is applied (with a gun): stain + base + varnish.
The width of the channels is 4 mm both at the top and in the hollow. The depth of the grooving is around 3.5 mm.

CONSTRUCTION & FINISH
Internal chest, handle and base finished in Chocolat lacquer. Fronts and sides in grooved dark walnut. Top in gloss black ceramic stoneware.

THE CONCEPT: The doucine, a moulding formed from two arcs of a circle, at once concave and convex, is at the heart of the originality and technical complexity which gives this range its uniqueness. It procures a harmonious wave-like shape or a natural undulation which, with its subtle flaring, gives the effect of breaking up a structure which would otherwise be rectilinear and impersonal. Thus this range proudly yet gently asserts its personality through a play on multiple customizations, most notably of the top, which is offered in ceramic stoneware or verde marble.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION: The Utopia collection comprises 4 pieces : the 3-door sideboard, the 4-door sideboard, the occasional unit, and the low table. The fronts of each piece have the doucine detailing, tapered towards the top and broader at the bottom. This feature slightly reduces the width of the units at the top, thus giving them their elegance and singularity. Another feature is the working of the front corners, with a hollow joint which appears to be hewn from the body of the unit. This effect is further accentuated by the combination of the two veneers, the dark-stained walnut contrasting strongly with the natural varnished cherry. This cherry is continued on the 4 door edges and the edges of the unit. The top is set back from the doors and sides, creating a hollow section which lends dynamism and exacerbates the tension created by the upper edges. This kind of integral top draws the gaze towards the noble surface of the Emperador ceramic stoneware or verde marble. One discovers the thickness of each of these tops - 6 mm for the ceramic stoneware and 20 mm for the marble - when opening the doors. One will also note that the rear is finished with just as much care as the rest, rising a few centimetres above the top and veneered vertically to finish. The surprise comes on opening the doors since this back panel is veneered right to the bottom, which is very unusual and an unexpected, undeniable interior refinement, like an extravagant lining of a sober-looking jacket. The fantasy rests in the details. The interior is finished in chocolat lacquer, in perfect harmony with the external veneer finish. If you are looking to achieve an even more deliberate « wow effect », there is the optional illumination for the right-hand side of the occasional unit, which illuminates the whole interior from top to bottom. This is triggered by a door sensor and its smoked grey diffuser filters the light to avoid glare whilst still providing plenty of light. The miniature 2nd generation LED’s make this possible. The doors are heavy and qualitative, robust in appearance and quite monumental. That said, they have a pleasant movement thanks to their numerous high-quality hinges and are damped on closing to avoid any undue noise. The 3-door sideboard boasts one single and one double space within to accommodate large trays. The 4-door version has two double spaces. Sideboards have 1 interior shelf ; the occasional unit has 3 shelves.

CANALETTO DISPLAY CABINET

THE CONCEPT: This ensemble of display units could resemble a geometric spatial occupation challenge between the body of the chest which is at once solid and diaphanous, and the thin mesh which streamlines the perimeter of its flat surfaces and is seen as an extension of the carcase. A provocative note somewhere between the essential industrial Bauhaus elements and contemporary elegance is struck through metallic finishes. The colours, reflected evanescently by the striped glazed panels, fade progressively to the point of disappearance, producing optical abstractions. An impression of segmented, repetitively rhythmed geometric figures, emphasised by the lacquered surfaces and wood panels to the rear, appears poetically, like a curtain which discreetly heralds the interior.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION: The CANALETTO collection of glazed units is a small but very singular range. The upper section is completely glazed, both front and sides, with a ridged glass with a widely-spaced linear pattern, an alternation of dips like peaks and troughs. This slim glass lets one see, or least guess at, the outlines of the objects held within, as the light plays across it. The glass of the doors is mounted flush with the smoked, brushed anodised aluminium frames, held in place by invisible glue beneath a bronze martingale. The lower shelves are in metal and are slim, lacquered and entirely rear-mounted, being attached to the back panels. The back panels are arranged between the shelves. They are either in dark walnut veneer, or lacquered. In such pieces as these, lighting considerably enriches their appearance and shows to best effect the outlines of objects behind the doors and sides.
This lighting takes two forms : In the display unit there are 4 horizontal illuminated strips set into the 4 back panels, with a smoked diffuser which does not allow glare and which is attractive even when unlit. The version with remote control and dimmer enables the light intensity to be reduced if desired.
In the sideboard and high 2-door chest, indirect lighting comes from the rear of the vertical side panels, with an illuminated strip located on the rear edges of the panels ; it illuminates both sides and creates a beautiful halo of light inside the unit. The colour of the shelves and back panels adds to the lighting ambiance and can also be modulated via the dimmer.
The base is in steel, with 12mm roundels mounted like an array of bamboo for solidity and lightness; it contrasts with the top. It is finished in bronze lacquer to co-ordinate with the aluminium door frames. The legs have height-adjustable jacks for levelling purposes. Its height is 250 or 500 mm, depending on the unit.

THE CONCEPT : for Eric Jourdan’s new family of storage, everything revolves around a language of forms. It is the design which guided the project, the pencil drew, adjusted, proportioned the constituent elements of the piece, balancing the tops, for example, with the staggered legs. In its light, asymmetrical, hollowed appearance one recognises the rounded forms so beloved of Eric Jourdan.

BEDSIDE TABLE

TV UNIT

Edging in 8 mm multi-ply clad in walnut veneer. Rounded carcase (left-hand side) finished in argile or plomb lacquer. DESK
Rounded carcase finished in natural varnished walnut veneer. Front and drawer finished in natural varnished walnut veneer with drawer interior finished in lacquer (argile or plomb). Et cetera is a vertically-constructed programme (assemblies of side panels, shelves, back panels and fronts). Basically a range of shelving, it is further enriched by the additional functions of an occasional unit: storage (opaque or glass doors, shelves, drawers), audiovisual equipment and lighting.
The name Et cetera evokes its dimensional possibilities: one can always add to its height (the highest standard side panel is 2676 mm) with the possibility of tailoring it perfectly to your particular space (cut down).
Et cetera's elegance stems from rigorous aesthetic choices, as much in terms of its volumes as its finishes:
- Readability of compositions facilitated by the subtle use of a network of single modules of 175 mm.
- Lightness of the overall structure thanks to the chosen thickness of 30 mm for side panels and shelves, the perfect compromise between the necessary reassuring thickness and the desired visual lightness.
- Single overall depth of 382 mm. Made possible by the reduction in depth of audiovisual equipment, this makes it possible to create items which fit more easily into the required space since they are shallower and 'flat' in terms of surface.
- Slimness of the grooved hinged doors (also the flap doors): their minimal thickness (around 6 mm) overlaps the edges of the structure. Their elegant minimalism is reinforced by their handle-free, 'push to open' operation.
- Originality of the storage surfaces for open niches: offered in a range of widths, their at once playful and functional appearance creates an interesting graphic emphasis with a play on linear repetition.
- Lightness accentuated by the choice of finishes: the structure of Et cetera is always in satin lacquer (white or argile). Fronts are either lacquered or enriched with veneer, the chosen species of which, sawn-effect oak, is offered in natural, anthracite or black.
A special shelving unit is also available which, being double-sided (unlike the rest of the items in the range, which are all single-sided), may be used as a room divider. This shelving unit is available in size 10M 12T (centre to centre distance H 1750 W 2100; actual dimensions H 1800 W 2130) and offers 5 levels of storage with either U-shaped lacquered niches or blocks of chests finished in smooth oak veneer.
In the case of the sideboard, the structures and fronts are priced separately to make it possible to mix all the finishes on offer. That said, the following combinations are recommended: interior of structure in white lacquer/fronts in natural sawn oak or interior of structure in argile lacquer with black lacquered top/fronts in anthracite-stained sawn oak.
As a complement to the existing lacquer finishes (white, argile, elephant), certain elements of this range are also available in the following 13 lacquer colours: rouge, brique, bleu, plomb, azur, bleu lavande, chocolat, moutarde, mastic, ranger, noir, perle, bleu nuit.
