KUJOYAMA

It was during the 2020 Spring lockdown that Benjamin Graindroge resumed his project initiated at the villa Kujoyama a few years earlier.
The tranquility of this French artistic establishment based in Mount Higashi in Kyoto provides all the ingredients to encourage creation with a link to Japan.
From the first discovery of the Kujoyama bookcase, we find immediately this reassuring feeling of a controlled calm thanks to the severity of subtly dosed proportions between the different elements that compose it.

MARECHIARO

The Marechiaro project is a shelving unit / a screen / a palisade / an architecture / a domestic landscape that questions the traditional use of the bookshelf and its presence in space. The system is a screen-cabinet which on one side is aimed at storing books and objects that are dear to us, and on the other side is a screen made up of wooden slats assembled in openwork to maintain a certain transparency. This dual use, this dual identity allows free and flexible use. The system enables to create a space within space : thanks to these three modules (straight, concave and convex) the compositions offer infinite freedom in the creation of alcoves and perforated walls while adapting to the requirements of the architecture of the place. We can thus easily delimit a workspace / a living room, a lounge / a dining room, a dressing room / a bedroom. In two-tone, the wooden slats add movement and surprise. They also allow Marechiaro to be apprehended differently depending on the angle of observation.
Shelving unit entirely made of machined solid wood.
Choice of two finishes :
NATURAL ASH : natural ash shelves / natural and black-stained slats
BLACK-STAINED ASH : black-stained ash shelves / ‘patine bronze’ (bronze patina) and black-stained slats

CONCEPTION : although it might be evocative of certain metal modular systems from the office world, Dita clearly distances itself from these in a number of ways: its lacquered panels are in wood rather than sheet metal; its discreet profiled uprights with their sophisticated finish are perfectly placed, cast and not part of the structure; a matching handle which is light and beautifully designed; and its small, slim feet which continue the line of the structure in a very natural way.
QUALITY OF MANUFACTURE & FINISHES: uprights are in 15 x 15 mm anodised aluminium section in a brushed bronze finish. These frame the wooden panels which are finished in argile lacquer on the interior faces and in a choice of 16 colours for all visible exterior faces:
- satin white, argile and perle (standard),
- rouge, bleu, bleu lavande, chocolat, mastic, noir, azur, brique, éléphant, moutarde, ranger, plomb and bleu nuit (to order).
All items are single-sided but are finished on the back (back panels and edges in argile lacquer). Certain items may be given an optional double-sided treatment, with the addition of a rear finishing panel.
Handles are in injected zamak, lacquered bronze to co-ordinate with the uprights.
Hinges are black.
The feet H 30 mm continue the line of the uprights and incorporate a black jack.
The new shelving unit, at H 189 cm the same height as the storage column, has shelves in a choice of 18 finishes: grey smoked glass, walnut veneer, satin white/argile/perle lacquer, plus the 13 'to-order' lacquer colours (rouge, bleu, bleu lavande, chocolat, mastic, noir, azur, brique, éléphant, moutarde, ranger, plomb and bleu nuit).
The 4-drawer chest is composed of 3 identical drawers topped with a narrower upper drawer. As an option, the latter may be finished in a different lacquer colour to the rest of the piece.
The 6-drawer chest is composed of 5 identical drawers topped with a nattower upper drawer. As an option, the latter may be finished in a different lacquer colour to the rest of the piece.
The bench/TV unit is available in 2 versions, either with a cushion or with a lacquered top. It comprises 2 flap doors with 2 lower glass shelves (could be used as hallway storage).
The cushion in high resilience polyurethane Bultex foam 53 kg/m3 – 6.3 kPa is covered in Steelcut trio 3 (choice of 53 colours).

MAX RECOMMENDED LOAD PER SHELF : 25 KG. BOOKSHELF MUST BE FIRMLY FIXED TO A WALL TO PREVENT IT TIPPING FORWARDS. Ligne Roset now brings us the steel wire shelving which Pierre Paulin designed in 1972. Minimalist, it marries the lacquer of its steel wire structure with the multi-ply used for its shelves. It is constructed around modules of W 70 cm which may be multiplied as desired. It is possible, for example, to create a 2 module shelving unit W 140 cm by juxtaposing two modules W 70 cm held together by 2 nylon linking-pieces each bearing Pierre Paulin's stamp. Each shelf has notches cut into it, into which the vertical uprights of the structure are inserted: this elegant method of assembly reinforces the stability of the overall piece. The shelves rest on little steel wire hoops soldered onto the uprights. Structure in lacquered steel wire Ø 10 mm. Each module W 70 cm sits on 4 adjustable jack feet. The 3 module shelving unit comprises 3 modules W 70 cm, held together by linking-pieces and shelves W 210 cm. Shelves in 8 mm thick birch multi-ply finished in laminate with the wood edges visible. Internal dimensions of each 'chest': H 38 W 33.3 D 33.

CUTS

For this project Philippe Nigro started with a simple parallelepiped which he then distorted by precision-cutting a 20° notch out of each face. This notch echoes the shape of a half-open book... whilst the chosen height of 36.5 cm is extremely appropriate to its function as a bookshelf. Thanks to the irregular shape of this module, one can obtain 4 different results simply by rotating it either horizontally or vertically. All that remains is to stack and/or juxtapose several such modules to obtain the desired configuration, a seemingly random construction. When stacked, chests are held in place by their own weight (13 kg) and steadied by small non-slip transparent rubber feet located between each chest. It is also possible to play with colour by mixing the 5 finishes on offer. Modules are made from satin lacquered MDF.

OKA

Oka is a modular shelving unit composed of single or double niches which may be juxtaposed in a way which jostles with the normally monotonous codes of the shelving unit. Thus one can mix colours and materials (lacquer or veneer), bringing together varying module sizes (single or double width) to create one's very own piece of furniture. The staggered shelves enable modules to perfectly interlock whilst bringing a highly original asymmetrical note to the extremities of the piece.

CONCEPT & DESCRIPTION :
“Canaletto’s modular nature opens up new horizons in terms of containing, but also displaying, showcasing, demonstrating...Open or closed modules and staggered vertical separations confer remarkable graphic lightness reminiscent of the tableaux of the view painter Canaletto.
The closed chests are given substantial and extremely significant character in the profiling, both horizontally and vertically, of the flap doors and drawers, thanks to the profiled uprights and projecting handles in ‘Canaletto walnut’.
These finishes transform a furniture system into a jewel with a unique spirit which draws the attention to the manufacturing details and a refined appearance. With Canaletto, putting together a composition will no longer be a puzzle or a series of difficult choices between function and aesthetics. Canaletto is an essential expression of a tranquil design response to the practical demands of modern life.”
Mauro Lipparini
An elegant modular range combining lacquer with solid wood. Note the quality of finish as embodied by the dark walnut lip which serves as a handle for the doors. It responds perfectly to contemporary requirements of a modular system, offering solutions for hi-fi and storage, plus shelving and a sideboard.
Items are created by juxtaposing elements. Once the structure is defined - H 50 (TV unit), H 75 (sideboard), H 145 or H 210 then W 67 or W 135 – it can then be completed in a number of ways. Shelving can be located in the lower section with a door above, or vice versa. One could also have full-height shelving, or even close the space completely. The end result of this is an undeniably original style with a powerful identity.
The shelving can be equipped with 2 or 3 optional illuminated vertical separations (predefined) to provide refined, indirect LED lighting (LED ribbon, glued in place, with a reflector which slides along the vertical panel).
The double doors have the unusual feature of having only one handle on the right-hand side. This touch of visual lightness is all part of the overall minimalism. The left-hand door may be opened via a finger-hold on the edge once the right-hand door has been opened.
With his sense of proportion, and with the rhythm and looks he has brought to it, Lipparini’s new modular range is both luxurious and high-end. Thanks to its simplicity, it is immediately comprehensible.
The lacquer colours have been selected with care : elements may be plain, in either plomb or perle lacquer, or these two lacquer colours may be combined with dark walnut veneer. Argile lacquer is always used in combination with dark walnut and interiors of chests in argile lacquer are always in plomb lacquer.
The doors come with a vertical solid walnut lip to both left and right. The shelves are perforated on the sides.
The subtle nature of the indirect LED lighting, and the addition of a glazed element (green-coloured, H-shaped) in the shelving unit reinforces the understated elegance of the alliance of materials.
Probably one of the best-finished ranges in our collections, this is a real work of cabinet-made art.

CLYDE

Numéro111 and Michel then decided to develop the Clyde range, taking as a starting point its essential characteristics – the brass-coated or black lacquered steel structure with its V-shaped supports and the way in which the tops are superposed. And so two new pieces were born: a bookcase and a multi-use low unit (low bookcase, low open sideboard, TV,...).

ET CETERA

Et cetera is a vertically-constructed programme (assemblies of side panels, shelves, back panels and fronts). Basically a range of shelving, it is further enriched by the additional functions of an occasional unit: storage (opaque or glass doors, shelves, drawers), audiovisual equipment and lighting.
The name Et cetera evokes its dimensional possibilities: one can always add to its height (the highest standard side panel is 2676 mm) with the possibility of tailoring it perfectly to your particular space (cut down).
Et cetera's elegance stems from rigorous aesthetic choices, as much in terms of its volumes as its finishes:
- Readability of compositions facilitated by the subtle use of a network of single modules of 175 mm.
- Lightness of the overall structure thanks to the chosen thickness of 30 mm for side panels and shelves, the perfect compromise between the necessary reassuring thickness and the desired visual lightness.
- Single overall depth of 382 mm. Made possible by the reduction in depth of audiovisual equipment, this makes it possible to create items which fit more easily into the required space since they are shallower and 'flat' in terms of surface.
- Slimness of the grooved hinged doors (also the flap doors): their minimal thickness (around 6 mm) overlaps the edges of the structure. Their elegant minimalism is reinforced by their handle-free, 'push to open' operation.
- Originality of the storage surfaces for open niches: offered in a range of widths, their at once playful and functional appearance creates an interesting graphic emphasis with a play on linear repetition.
- Lightness accentuated by the choice of finishes: the structure of Et cetera is always in satin lacquer (white or argile). Fronts are either lacquered or enriched with veneer, the chosen species of which, sawn-effect oak, is offered in natural, anthracite or black.
A special shelving unit is also available which, being double-sided (unlike the rest of the items in the range, which are all single-sided), may be used as a room divider. This shelving unit is available in size 10M 12T (centre to centre distance H 1750 W 2100; actual dimensions H 1800 W 2130) and offers 5 levels of storage with either U-shaped lacquered niches or blocks of chests finished in smooth oak veneer.
In the case of the sideboard, the structures and fronts are priced separately to make it possible to mix all the finishes on offer. That said, the following combinations are recommended: interior of structure in white lacquer/fronts in natural sawn oak or interior of structure in argile lacquer with black lacquered top/fronts in anthracite-stained sawn oak.
As a complement to the existing lacquer finishes (white, argile, elephant), certain elements of this range are also available in the following 13 lacquer colours: rouge, brique, bleu, plomb, azur, bleu lavande, chocolat, moutarde, mastic, ranger, noir, perle, bleu nuit.
